Re: Eggs
atb trev, I had chickens at one time. Took a long while to become productive but began to lay prolifically when I built an eggstention.

It's true that eggs are great...and they can be eaten across a plethora of local cuisines all over the world. You always see an egg.

Chopped sage on scrambled eggs. Fresh if you can get it, but dried will also do. You'll be amazed.

Re: Eggs

Depends how old they are. They start proper laying from about 21 weeks and during the summer you'll soon be overrun with eggs unless you eat them every day as they'll lay one a day each.

They'll slow down again over winter, and by the time they are three years old they'll lay whenever the fuck they want.

Re: Eggs
Thank Irons,

In actual fact I'm being a bit hard on my clucky friends.

It is pretty nice seeing the little buggers peck their way around the garden, even though they are a bit (literally) tight arsed in the egg department.

The kids are absolutely loving them and the joy on their faces when they actually come back with an egg is certainly worth the effort alone.

We had similar "success." But I am sure it can get better.

The less you interfere with them, the more eggs they lay.

So wiping my knob on them wouldn't work?

Anyway we got another one this afternoon, only another 16699803425 to go to make the whole enterprise worth the effort....

Re: Eggs
The Mrs has always wanted to keep chickens. A friend moving house donated their coop so that was our excuse to get some.
Then she says their coop wasn't big enough so I have just spent the weekend building a huge hen mansion for them.

We've had them three weeks now.
They've only laid two eggs the ungrateful bastards.

Re: Eggs
Spicey sauce , yeah. I suggest Tabasco is too mild, so try a hotter sauce with coriander. You will thank me later.
